Designed by Kennedy Nolan Architects, the Horsham Special School upgrade was undertaken to create a more inclusive, accessible and modern learning environment tailored to the needs of students with diverse abilities. The project involved the construction of a new senior hub building, providing dedicated spaces for older students to learn and develop life skills in a supportive setting. An adaptable resource centre was also built, offering flexible learning areas designed to accommodate a range of educational and therapeutic activities.
In addition to new facilities, the project included significant refurbishments to the existing multipurpose hall and junior playground area, enhancing recreational and learning spaces for younger students. Outdoor improvements featured the installation of new turf across the entire school, creating a safe and inviting environment for physical activity and social engagement. Minor civil works were also carried out to support the functionality and accessibility of the upgraded spaces.
This project formed part of Victoria’s largest-ever investment in specialist school upgrades, with 39 schools benefiting from a combined $388.8 million in funding. The upgraded facilities align with Horsham Special School’s commitment to celebrating diverse abilities, ensuring students aged 5 to 18 have access to an inclusive, engaging and well-equipped learning environment that supports their growth and development.
