The new Wellington Street Common Ground project will provide 26 self-contained studio apartments, designed to offer permanent, supportive housing for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.
The building features a mix of communal spaces, including a lounge, kitchen, dining area, laundry facility and landscaped outdoor areas to foster community connection and wellbeing.
The project is designed using the 'Common Ground' and 'Housing First' approaches, providing tenants with not only housing but also on-site health, wellbeing and social services to support long-term stability.
Located within close proximity to public transport, local services and housing support agencies, the building offers easy access to essential amenities for residents.
Construction of this $10.5 million project is creating both employment opportunities and economic benefits for the local community, particularly with increased local spending in surrounding businesses.
When completed, this project will significantly contribute to reducing rough sleeping in the Port Phillip region, supporting the Port Phillip Zero initiative to eliminate homelessness.
